More information at www.red-dragons.org and www.dragonscribe.com The 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion is the oldest unit in the U.S. Army Chemical Corp. It conducted all U.S. chemical operations in World War I. Armed with the 4.2-inch chemical mortar, it fired WP and HE in 510 days of combat in World War II and 1007 consecutive days of combat in the Korean War. The unit served in Viet Nam, redesignated as the 2nd Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion.Its colors and 22 battle streamers are carried today by the 2nd Chemical Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas which saw combat in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and in the current conflict in Iraq.
