Ebay Reveals They Are Set To Offer In-App Mobile Advertising

In a surprising twist today, the biggest auction site in the world has announced that they are about to launch in-app mobile advertising. Ebay has long been asked about this, but until now they never made a commitment. While many people hoped that Ebay would not add ads to their apps, it seemed inevitable. After all, one of the best ways for tech companies to make money now is by offering ads in their apps. It's the way of the future.

With this announcement comes many results. Doubtlessly many users will be greatly annoyed by the ads showing up in their apps, but will they still be bothered a month later? Or will they learn to overlook it while they are passively advertised at? Of course we can't know right now, but considering how this usually goes, our bet is on the latter.

We are also waiting with baited breath to see what kind of advertisers they invite into the fray. Ebay will probably invite their sellers to advertise their stores and listings, but will other companies be welcomed to advertise? This may make a huge difference not only in revenue, but also in how app users respond to the ads. They will be a lot more likely to respond favorably to listening advertisements, especially if they are tailored to the kind of listings they are looking for.

There is still a lot to wait and see about regarding Ebay's new launch in this regard. Mobile advertising is huge, and as people switch more to tablets and smartphones over the standard computer, it's becoming more imperative to find a way to tap into that market. This holds true for companies that had once spurned the idea. We're not saying that Ebay ever spurned it. But it is an interesting switch.
