* I Didn't Get A Hippoptamus For Christmas, But I Am Truly Blessed To Have Spent The Holidays With My Friends, Family, And Loved Ones. Hope You All Had As Great Of A Christmas As I Did, And Wishing You All A Wonderful New Year! *

You've Most Likely Heard This Song On The New Telus Commercial.
I Usually Don't Sound Like This When I Sing, But If You've Ever Heard The Original Song By Gayla Peevey, You'd Understand Why I'm Singing In A Weird Voice, Haha.
As Strange As This Song Is, It Gets Stuck In Your Head Pretty Quickly!

"A Popular Legend Holds That This 1953 Hit Had Been Recorded As A Fund-Raiser To Bring The Oklahoma City Zoo A Hippo; But In A 2007 Radio Interview With Detroit-Based WNIC Radio Station, Gayla Peevey Clarified That The Song Was Not Originally Recorded As A Fundraiser. Instead, A Local Promoter Picked Up On The Popularity Of The Song And Launched A Campaign To Present Her With An Actual Hippopotamus On Christmas.

The Campaign Succeeded And She Was Presented With An Actual Hippopotamus, A Baby Hippo Named Matilda, Which She Donated To The City Zoo. The Hippopotamus Lived For Nearly 50 Years."
