I saw that quakeforge 0.6.0 was released the other day so I tried it out and wasn't that impressed, which got me wondering about what the state of the art is for Quake engines these days - turns out the DarkPlaces engine is excellent!
This is a 960x540 resolution capture of QDQ:WaV Episode 1 speedrun on the DarkPlaces Quake engine with: - rygel's "high" texture pack ( the "ultra" pack would kill my 3yr old laptop =/ ), - dp pretty water 0.51, - Romi's rtlights file, - Ogro monster skins, - Seven's effectinfo.txt settings file with a tweak to the underwater grenade bubble spacing (line 926 - changed from 6 to 1), - "Full" effects, "Full" lighting.
Hardware: 2.5Gz Core 2 Duo laptop with NVidia 9500GM 512MB graphics + 4GB RAM Software: Linux (LMDE w/ Liquorix kernel + proprietary 290 drivers), darkplaces-glx built from git repo, glc-capture, mencoder + lame to transcode to .avi using h264
