Caring for the Elderly: What Does the Research Say?

There is largely insufficient research into the health care for the elderly according to a report assessing eight different fields published by SBU, The Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment. However, the reports could identify some areas of health care that in fact work, for example: the interdisciplinary team. Interdisciplinary teams are composed of experts from multiple health care professions. The team shares the responsibility for the patients’ care and follow up. Interdisciplinary teams have very positive effects on the patients and the patients’ functional abilities improve.
