DrTim founder of DrTim's Aquatics explains how to use aquarium water test kits and goes into detail about two common problems with test kits: measuring outside the test kit range and knowing what units the test kit measurements are in.
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, phosphate, calcium, magnesium and many other water quality parameters can be measured by aquarium hobbyists using test kits but in order to get accurate values and make valid comparisons you need to know the limits of your test kit and the units your test measures - this video will explain both and near the end present a chart comparing the ion forms of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate to the nitrogen base commonly used by scientists.
