In communities across the country, customers are shopping at Walmart. Our customers recognize that we're working on issues that are important to them - healthier foods, sustainability and workforce development -- while also saving them money. And more and more, communities recognize that Walmart can be part of the solution when it comes to job creation, economic development and improved access to fresh groceries.
As a result, we continue to evaluate opportunities to expand access to our brand. To do this, we have incorporated a more flexible approach to communities that includes small and large store formats. For example, we currently operate about 200 Walmart Neighborhood Markets across the country. These stores average about 42,000 square feet -- about a quarter the size of a typical supercenter -- and focus mostly on groceries, pharmacy and consumables like health and beauty aids, stationery and paper goods and pet and household supplies.
