How to Stop Islamophobia and Hate Speech?

How do Muslims see ISIS? How to fight Islamophobia? How to stop hate speech against Muslims? Imam Mufti replies to all these questions in his interview with Wayne Wilson.

The video starts with a question to Imam Mufti about Tashfeen Malik and Syed Farook, who after committing their heinous crime, claimed they are doing it in the name of Islam. Mufti clearly states that they are criminals. They are barbaric people who are committing acts in their own name. These actions lead to targeting Muslims more and more and lead to more mistrust and more suspicion. Moreover, it fuels both Islamophobia and attacks on mosques. Then, the discussion moves to presidential candidates like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz who use pejorative language to talk about Muslims and Islam. For example, using terms like radical Islamic terrorism, radicalized Muslims, radical Sunni group, proposals to ban Muslim Immigration to the USA and calls for shutting down mosques. Imam Mufti explains that the language used reflects a clash of civilization and promotes fear. He sees that the solution to this problem is dialogue. There must be a greater dialogue with the right people, the people who are willing to sit down and listen. Muslims, Christians, and Jews have a lot of commonalities to start with. Lack of dialogue leads to misunderstanding. For example, the word Jihad which in Islam means struggle is often misinterpreted. Finally, there is the question of who finances ISIS? Imam mufti showed that ISIS depends on selling oil and we need to know who buys ISIS oil, what companies work with ISIS and why there arenโ€™t sanctions on ISIS.
