a great big beautiful tomorrow

we dreamt of a great big beautiful tomorrow
shining bright, day or night
not fluorescent, but iridescent
and radiating pure light
within, a message
a beacon, a blessing
amidst the darkness
amidst the wreckage

but our hopes and dreams
are transformed and the vestige
we clutched to - the wreckage
it twisted our original message
even if the words stayed the same
they were writ' without presage
so even smiles are made vexing
and kindness oppressing
and a life that once was simple
and filled with amazement
became one filled with guilt
hate rage and shameing

made light into night
twisting reality
into our self-serving message
that sometimes used the word pride
and hope, faith and
to everyones amazement
it didn't serve
and it didn't do any saving
and the original message
how did it get pressed
into a confused, inverted blessing
and even more vexing
how did our dream machine
turn into a
nightmare being?

and how did this nightmare being
create war and warfare
proclaiming the ends justified the means
and fighting for life and for air
which we convinced ourselves
and im not sure how
was a glory filled
not rife with despair
how did

we convince ourselves it was

when we looked through the spectacles that we used in our dreams
and seeing that future so bright, as those patriots take flight
we could believe and ignore all the horror and blight
thinking the dream was alive when it was

actually just a dusty, dead thing

or we could see

that this dream, it no longer served anyone
but just prolonged EVERYONES misery

shielding the real dream
the great big beautiful tomorrow
from coming forth
into reality...
