2011 (Shirley Bassey and Lara Fabian - Their appearances at Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th Birthday Celebration)

Dame Shirley Bassey and Lara Fabian! In my opinion, these two vocalists were the highlight of Mekhail Gorbachev's 80th Birthday Celebration, which was held on March 30, 2011. These two ladies are separated by more than a generation, and they each possess different singing styles, vocal pitch, vibrato, and timber. But, what they have in common is talent to the extreme! The voices that these two ladies have come around once every few decades or so, at best!

Great comment Ugonna! Many younger viewers (not all) are so used to light timbre sopranos, which young female singers tend to me, that they don't want to even listen to a powerfully seasoned combo Alto/Mezzo voice like Shirley has. My word, she is 74 yo here! Of course, these same people won't take the time to find Shirley's original recording of the same song releassed over 40 years ago. Nobody's voice stays the same over 60 years, but Shirley's voics has indeed aged like fine wine.

This goes right through you. Unbelievable. Just watched her doing Goldfinger. Can't wait for the Oscars to see her do this there. Cubby Broccoli and John Barry will be there in spirit. That's for sure.
