Hutton addressed director John Singleton calling out the film's creators, telling fans via Instagram that "The reason I am not making this picture is because the people involved aren't really respectful of the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur." Hutton calls this statement "100% not true at all," believing that Singleton spoke negatively about the production not for any valid reason, but because he was fired. He says it's "dirty" of Singleton to throw those jabs publicly, not only because they aren't true, but also because the general public who doesn't know the business will take the popular director's words and run with them.
