In 2012 the new Gold Coast City Mayor hatched a plan to hand over the last remaining coastal open public space to developers for free. His idea is that a cruise ship terminal, ongoing dredging and the further development of hotels, marinas, casinos and commercial construction will go ahead. Neither the Mayor or the current State Government mentioned any of this in their pre election policies and are now acting above and beyond what the people voted for. All of this despite the LNP pledging a few years earlier on multiple platforms and multiple occasions, pledging to the people of Queensland in solidarity and absolutely that they would protect the land from development forever. Now under threat is Australia's greatest in shore city marine park, 450+ species of amazing aquatic life, pristine blue waterways, diving, surfing, beaches, parklands, fishing, boating, vast amounts of public owned land and much much more. This IS the Gold Coast's 'Central Park', this is public land that belongs to the people of Australia and it should NEVER be handed over to private corporations for commercial consumption. They do not intend to even sell the land, they are just going to hand it over to the best tender for FREE! This area IS what makes the Gold Coast unique and has an immeasurable environmental, social and cultural value to the future of this city. Don't wait until it's gone forever, get the facts and get behind the push to save South Straddie, Save The Spit, Save Wavebreak, Save the Broadwater and save The Gold Coast!
