Morgantown Has One of the Lowest Unemployment Rates

Touchdown city continues to have one of the nation's best unemployment rates. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Morgantown, W.Va has the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 5.8%, that is over 3 percentage points better than the nations average.

Morgantown has several corporations that are not affected by the economic downturn. It houses West Virginia University, which is the towns largest employer. It is a prime location for smaller businesses to thrive. Rohan Cochran has made his home here.

"I think Morgantown is a great place for small businesses as well as larger companies because there is a lot of incentives and tax breaks going on here," he said.

The university has a large hospital and partner pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. These areas of the economy are actually adding jobs. West Virginia University hospitals announced a $248 million dollar expansion that will add 750 jobs to the Morgantown area.
