OCA Upsets the GMO 'Apple' Cart at BIO;
(Biotech Industry Organization - Chicago!)
Tuesday 4/23 (11:30a -1:00p) Consumers, farmers, and the natural world are yet again to be assaulted by the biotech industry with a new GMO Arctic Apple. A Golden and Granny Smith-looking apple that never browns — but the same RNA gene strand technology that turns off the browning process also turns off a natural resistance to pests, which will result in more toxic pesticides being put on an already over-toxic crop. As if it weren't bad enough that non-organic apples top the Environmental Working Group's Dirty Dozen list of the most pesticide-ridden foods. And to make it even worse, hurting the livelihoods of farmers by threatening consumer confidence in apples. With the exception of organic apples, which should be encouraged, to avoid GMOs, consumers will have to otherwise avoid all normal Golden and Granny Smith apples that will look the same as the GMO apple, with no labeling and no way to tell them apart. Join the Organic Consumer Association as we shake up the Biotech Apple Cart on Tuesday at the BIO Conference in Chicago. One of the biotech industry's largest annual conventions, where there will be an award presented to Okanagan Specialty Fruits, Inc. (OSF) for developing this monstrous 'Franken Apple'. Life is stranger than fiction!
