Adapt & Conquer From Sea to Shining Sea
If it is impossible for a paraplegic to take even a single step, cycling across the country in 14 days should be unfathomable. But that is the challenge this heroic group of cyclists courageously took on in a show of strength, unity, and inspiration. For the members of this team, this was more than just a bucket-list item, it was a chance to prove to themselves and anyone facing a life-altering obstacle, that we can truly conquer the impossible. Together we are ABLE human beings and together “we can do this!”
On April 10th, 2016, a team of 10 paralyzed, disabled, and able-bodied athletes began an unprecedented journey across the United States, cycling from “California to Carolinas” to raise awareness for adaptive sports and to support wounded veterans and disabled athletes. Rotating in teams of two, the group cycled 24 hours a day until completing its 3,113 mile adventure. The teams began in Camp Pendleton (Oceanside, CA) and arrived at Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville, NC) 14 days later to raise money and awareness for the Semper Fi Fund, Independence Fund and the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program.
Documentarian Jon Johnnidis of Axios Productions, a docu-film video production company based out of Brooklyn, NY, followed the team for the duration of the ride capturing the journey and producing an intimate and unique story around their mission and the team members grand achievements in the face of adversity.
