Billboard-charted track, not elsewhere on YouTube as of this posting. This second most popular of five charted versions reached #11 on the BB singles rankings. Musician-composer Vaughn Horton (he wrote "Mockin' Bird Hill" and co-wrote "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie") contributed new English-language lyrics to this Swiss melody and recorded it for his Continental label in late 1947. Initial positive response to the song drove the Andrews Sisters into Decca's studios for a last-minute cover version prior to the 1/1/1948 musician's strike, and it was that more leisurely-paced recording by Patty Lavern and Maxine that won the sales prize during the spring months of '48.
