Can The Dark Knight Rises expect to be among the list of movies nominated for Best Picture come January 15th when nominees for the Academy Awards are announced? If reactions to a recent Academy screening of the film are any indication, it's not looking good.

This past Saturday, members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences attended a screening of the final Batman film and it even attracted a rare appearance from Academy president Tom Sherak who asked for a moment of silence to honor those affected by the recent shootings in Colorado. Though the tragic events wore heavy on the minds of the attendees, most felt the film had little chance of securing nominations outside technical awards and certainly not Best Picture.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, one member suggested many in attendance felt disappointed by the film and another suggested there was nothing remarkable about the acting, which ultimately will preclude it from a Best Picture nom. Writer Bret Easton Ellis took to Twitter following the screening to declare "there was zero love for The Dark Knight Rises at the packed Academy screening".

Of course, one screening does not seal the fate of the film's chances of getting a nomination. Recent changes to the Best Picture category has opened up nominations to a possible ten films getting nods, which allows more mainstream films to get recognized, so there is always a chance, though odds are a bit slimmer than they were before the screening.

Of course, we have to ask, do you think The Dark Knight Rises is worthy of an Oscar nomination? Are there any other films released this year that you think deserve it more?
