Candlelight vigil and memorial march for Charlie, a New York City carriage horse who collapsed and died on his way to work, on Oct. 23, 2011. Necropsy findings show he had suffered from chronic ulceration of the stomach and a cracked tooth. Five days after his death, another horse spooked and crashed his carriage in the park; 1 week later, a horse named Luke collapsed and lay motionless on W. 60th Street for 15 minutes before being helped up. He was evaluated and deemed worthy to return to work a day later; the cause of his collapse is not known.
