Here is a handmade S-Type guitare manufactured by Italian luthier Lauro Barcellini (AlecB). The guitar follows closely the vibe of 1960-62 Strats, with their full and smooth sound.
The 21-fret neck is made with maple and rosewood. The nut is bone. The sinuously carved 2-piece body is made out of swamp ash. The result is a highly resonant instrument.
To compensate the natural brightness of the ash, the builder used a vintage-style bridge with a cast-alloy block and over-wounded the AlNiCo5 pickups with vintage Heavy Formvar. The mid pickup is not reverse wounded. The guitar is strung with 0.11 Elixir Nanoweb strings. The amplified sound is full and with plenty of sustain.
