Hi, This is Mara with Fiber Art TV. ,
Striving to expand, growing cells ready to burst,
yet bound by the wrapped and woven threads for protection.

By working with cotton threads, metallic and unraveled lace taken from my family's sewing boxes,
I am able to incorporate bits of the past with the new journeys ahead.

This series of framed wall hangings called New beginnings, is one of the outcomes of my original technique.
This piece entitled Green Beginnings reminds me of the mossy seaweed at the shore line which holds tiny new life.

FiberArtTv is all about the world of weaving; an art form over 10,000 years old and a fundamental process for existence today! Museums have been established to promote increased appreciation for the history of weaving and other fiber art throughout the world. The everyday needs of our prehistoric ancestors probably led them to create objects using fiber as a medium. Archaeologists believe that basket making and weaving were probably the first "crafts" developed by humans.Today fiber art, textiles, woven materials and objects surround every person. The need for clothing woven from yarn and thread is no longer a basic necessity but a huge billions of dollars industry employing millions of designers, weavers, dyers, sewers, textile mills and fiber artists. My fiber art fascination is with the endless possibilities that can be achieved starting with one simple thread.
