In October 2009, the Ministry of Justice in the heart of Baghdad was devastated in a double suicide bomb attack. The bombing killed over 150 people and injured over 520. A nursery located at the Ministry was eradicated and a school bus carrying children was also hit; an estimated 60 children perished in the rubble.
A monument of Iraq's first monarch, King Faisal I, survived the attack unscathed.
