About ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards:
ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) is an all Ireland environmental awards programme for young people. The Awards honour the work of young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who protect, conserve and enhance our environment through local environmental projects, making a difference to their lives and the lives of others locally and globally.

The YEA is a fun and exciting way to empower young people to become better citizens, to build awareness of environmental issues in their locality and promote simple actions and lifestyle changes to improve the environment for all.

In 2008, the Young Environmentalist Awards had over 140 registered projects from which 40 were short-listed and displayed at an open showcase prior to the awards ceremony. Young people from all over Ireland were awarded at the YEA 2008 ceremony, which took place on the 13th May 2008 in the Mansion House, Dublin. There were 40 short-listed projects competing the awards in fifteen categories including Junior (12 -- 14 years old) and Senior (15-18 years old). Seventeen groups of young environmentalists from all around Ireland and Northern Ireland were awarded in various categories.

ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards Programme has been running since 1999 and has attracted the participation of over 10,000 young people and reached countless others with awareness raising campaigns in over 750 schools and communities in Ireland.
