John Q. Barrett is Professor of Law at St. John's University in New York City and Elizabeth S. Lenna Fellow at the Robert H. Jackson Center. These are excerpts from his November 15, 2004, keynote lecture at Albany Law School at a program commemorating its 1912 alumnus Justice Jackson fifty years after his death. Barrett's article based on this lecture, "Albany in the Life Trajectory of Robert H. Jackson," is published in the Albany Law Review, vol. 68, 2005, pp. 513-37.
