Jim Kennedy shared his thoughts (while standing in front of a chroma-key) on United States unwillingness to address China's industrial espionage against Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) in [likely] pursuit of Molten Salt Reactor technology.
Jim asks: Is the Department of Energy intentionally facilitating Th-MSR technology transfer to China?
In early July 2012, Energy Secretary Steven Chu agreed to allow the destruction of U-233, as the Department of Energy considers it a dangerous proliferation concern. Thorium advocates see it as an invaluable resource to start Thorium Molten Salt Reactors (such as LFTR). Once started with U-233, such reactors can run on plentiful, inexpensive thorium.
DoE is going to spend $511M to destroy the only U-233 stockpile in the West, and essentially kneecap the United State's ability to compete with China on the development of thorium reactors.
