A simple return crank to operate Baker, Walschaerts, Hackworth, or any other valve gear that requires a return crank. Built for lego steam locomotives and engines, it is simple to build, turns freely so it can be used on track. I can make instructions for it if anyone would like. I know some builders have been attempting valve gears for a while, so I put my mind to the problem. It uses, basically, a harry potter wand to operate the return crank. The only problem, which I am working on, is that builders will have to make their locos frames narrower by just one stud. If you look in the video you will see a cam just behind the main driver, this is required to hold the return crank rod. There will be two of them, one on each side. This required space for the two parts is the reason for the one stud narrower frame. Also, the return crank can be manually adjusted to any postition for operation. These models are just examples, and are not meant to be real track riding locomotives. They are built as examples of two different wheel arrangements, the 4-4-0, and 4-6-0. But any other wheel arrangement is possible. Any questions I will be happy to answer! :)
