Dr. Steven Haymon knew of God first from his parents, then from his pastor but says he never knew God for himself. He says after he understood how God had, sparred him almost as an epiphany, he only then began to pursue God.

After someone requested he help others at a church to deal with stress in their lives he would often hear them say they were too blessed to be stressed, but deep down inside they knew they were. Stress can manifest itself in simple, inappropriate behaviors towards ourselves or one another or reach the more intense levels with mood disorders, addictions or even with physical illnesses.

In his most recent book: Stress: Climbing Out of the Pits With God, Dr. Steven Haymon uses the Scriptures to point out that patriarchs right out of the Bible like Abraham, Peter, James, Paul, as well as many others all had stress in their lives. Dr. Steven Haymon writes how people react to stress can have an impact on their relationship with God. Using sound teachings right out of the Bible, Dr. Haymon writes how addictions intensify our reactions to stress and how our faith can help combat its impact on our lives.

Stress: Climbing Out of the Pits With God deals with how anger or being unforgiving or sin will contribute to levels of stress in our lives.

Dr. Steven Haymon believes for anyone to say that people of faith don't have stress are mistaken because anytime you interact with others there can be stress because we have to consider those other people.

Dr. Haymon says like when an aircraft negotiates with resistance it actually uses that to elevate the multi-ton plane off the ground to get from point A to point B.

Like the plane we have to recognize the resistance and use it to our advantage to elevate above the stress.

Stress: Climbing Out of the Pits With God is about how to use our gifts from God to overcome the multiple levels of stress.
Dr. Haymon says one of the problems with people today is that we feel we should be in control of what comes at us, but most of the time we're not even in control of ourselves.
