Small brush fire behind Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena, CA on May 16, 2011. This video shows the outstanding skills of a Los Angeles County Fire helicopter pilot in handling close quarters drop and refill, avoiding power lines and other obstacles!

The helo is sucking up water from a pond in Hahamonga watershed in about 60 seconds and recycling to a drop in another 60-75 seconds.

The fire burned several acres before being snuffed out by the water drops and 100+ member response team from Los Angeles County Fire Dept.

The origin of the fire is not known at this time. No apparent damage to nearby structures or persons and evidently did not interrupt operations at JPL.

This area suffered damage from the huge Station Fire in Aug 2009. That fire and brush clearance by JPL reduced the fuel for this fire. Low winds, high humidity, good moisture content in the brush also helped LA County Fire tackle this small blaze thereby minimizing the potential for a disaster as homes are perched just over the ridge out of sight in this video.

This video shot from the east side of arroyo seco facing west. Apologies for the shaky stuff from hand held action. Left my tripod at the shop!.
