AIDS in San Diego- Host Gloria Penner and her guests focus on the AIDS epidemic in the African-American community. We bring together a doctor who runs a Southeast San Diego medical clinic with a large African-American clientele, and a health workers who runs an HIV prevention program targeting African-Americans to talk about why the disease has spiraled among blacks, what’s being done to stop it, and why more hasn’t been done. Guests: Dr. Rodney Hood, Care View Medical Group; Lorenzo Herman, Comprehensive Health Center. KPBS Reporter Alison St. John and Producer Milan Kovacevic report on a distressing increase in the number of new HIV infections in the gay male community, where AIDS first surfaced over 20 years ago.
