According to UN Habitat, approximately one billion citizens around the world are living in inadequate housing, in slums located in urban areas, and 100 million are homeless. But there is hope! ConstruCycle has developed a holistic, innovative, low cost, profitable, scalable and environmentally friendly housing solution to empower citizens at the bottom of the economic pyramid. We use scraps, such as paper, and transform them into prefabricated eco-construction panels to make low cost housing. Our primary product is made of safe and locally available raw materials, such as scrap paper, which is recycled by a local company and converted into pulp, which is then mixed with an organic solution that makes the material inflammable and water resistant. This material is then compressed in a special machine designed and produced in Germany, into a structurally strong honeycomb pattern, with which we make prefabricated sandwich panels. These panels have a life expectancy of more than fifty years, it is termite proof, and can stand all weather conditions and most natural disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes. We plan to start operations in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where 2,023,744 citizens live in favelas (slums), and the total housing deficit is 580,000 unit
