"Karearea: the pine falcon" tells the story of a remarkable wild population of New Zealand falcons that have adapted to live in commercial pine plantations. Set against the constant threat of forestry logging, the film also threads in the photography and life of wildlife photographer George Chance, who followed and studied the birds for ten years during the 1970's. Now some thirty years on, George's health is failing and he is going blind. Featuring completely new falcon behaviour, and filmed over three breeding seasons, filmmaker Sandy Crichton gets ever closer to the falcons as he attempts to add movement to George's photographs.
