When making your own ferments, sometimes you will see a white layer of "scum" on the top, which is also referred to as "bloom". Some sources suggest this layer is also a form of mold. The product is safe to eat, you may remove it if you wish, but I typically do not. In the short video you will see the scum at the top and also I will show you what the layer at the bottom looks like. As I move the jar, you can see the white product which I assume is bacteria, floating around in the pickle juice. These pickles were made using pickling cukes grown in my own garden.
