The new AIRPORT S-Bahn trains now take passengers to Hamburg Airport. The full service started on 12th December 2008 in the well designed new underground station, after the official opening on the 11th. Hamburg was the only major German airport without a rail link and is now suitable for disabled passengers. 2008 also saw the opening of the shopping plaza, an appealing retail centre for passengers located between Terminal 1 and 2. The plaza appears to appeal to those with luxury tastes and the bank account to match. A new hotel was due to open in 2008. New car parks were opened in 2007. Many years of confusing airport road systems, due to building work, may be over. In the airport itself, signs pointing in the direction of the new station are very hard to find (28.12.2008). Rumour has it improvements are on the way.
