Software as a Service (SaaS) is happening - not a question of "if" but "when". Great value in SaaS because of new generation end-users who want self-service applications on-demand. Also a new generation of best-in-breed and best-practice applications that are coming on the market.

IT managers should restate governance with business owners, who want SaaS applications. They should then look holistically at how they will distribute all their SaaS applications to their end-users in a consistent fashion.

SaaS adoption is for the enterprise about faster adoption of best-in-breed applications and more cost-effective adoption.

For end-users it's about me, now, and my business problem.

There are strong expectations from employees that they will get from the enterprise what they get in their personal lives. IT managers should be prepared to provide this flexibility and on-demand access to applications to their employees.
