Growing vegetables and herbs are an easy and fun way to add a variety of flavor to your foods.
Lettuce and Greens Lettuce grows best in the cooler months so grow in the spring or fall. Lettuce seeds germinate very quickly as well, so in about 45 days you will have a garden full of lettuce. To plant, create a groove and sprinkle in the seeds. Cover with soil, lightly water and you will have bunches of lettuce.
Radishes Radishes are a fun vegetable to grow, especially for the kids. Planted just like lettuce, radishes take about 30 days to bloom. They are a great vegetable in red, stripped or white varieties. Kids love to dig these up as well.
Tomatoes Tomatoes are a must have vegetable. They can be planted in containers or in the garden. They need about 6-8 hours of sunlight a day so be sure to plant in a sunny area. Tomatoes come in so many different types such as the tasty heirlooms, juicy beef stake and cheery tomatoes.
Herbs Fresh herbs can get pricey and growing them is not hard at all. They are a great addition to a garden and the smell can not be beat. Grow herbs such as oregano and thyme. Add them to any landscape to act as an edible ground cover. Fresh basil is great for any dish, especially sauce. Be sure to plant in a hot sunny area though, as they love sun. fresh herb.
