Before Ottawa Country purchased the land that the North Ravine County Park is now located at, (just south of Grand Valley State University) Cal Aldrink (the owner of the property at the time) put up a cross near the Grand River to glorify Jesus Christ and what God the Father accomplished for humanity through his death, burial and resurrection.
I spoke with Cal often, as we gazed over the picturesque beauty this video shows. Cal told me that the bridge you see was symbolic of the truth that Jesus Christ "bridged" the gap between an all holy God and sinful mankind - separating each other for all eternity ... had Jesus not became THAT bridge to allow humanity to be able to be united with God -- Jesus having paid the penalty for mankind's sins ... so they could be forgiven; not held against them.
It was truly a sad day for many when the county decided to tare the cross down. Thankfully, they let "the bridge of God remain."
