Noted author, activist and educator Angela Davis was chosen by the class of 2012 to serve as the keynote speaker. Davis is a Distinguished Professor Emerita of history of consciousness and feminist studies at the University of California Santa Cruz. She has taught at many colleges and universities, including Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA and briefly at The Claremont Colleges in the '70s. Davis is the author of several books, including the forthcoming The Meaning of Freedom and Are Prisons Obsolete (2003). She has lectured on race, gender and incarceration throughout the US as well as in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and South America.
