In which the Nerdwriter does his best to contribute to the astounding Project for Awesome. For the record, he thinks that John & Hank Green are very good people. And he encourages you to donate to his charity, The K.I.N.D. Fund.

The K.I.N.D. fund, or Kids In Need of Desks, is the brain-child of Lawrence O'Donnell, host of The Last Word on MSNBC. As I've said before I'm chemically addicted to television news, and I heard him announce this charity about a year ago. The simplicity of it inspired me. And that it was something which hadn't crossed my mind -- children without desks.

The way we can best leverage our efforts in sub-saharan Africa (really, anywhere underdeveloped) is by removing all obstacles in the way of primary and secondary education. A lack of desks is one problem among many, but perhaps a good way to start. Create an environment which fosters learning from the ground up, literally.
