E-idea is an innovative competition that funds, supports and mentors young eco-entrepreneurs, aged 18-35, from seven Asia-Pacific countries.
The competition was launched across Asia Pacific by the British Council and Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) with activities in Australia, China, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand as well as Vietnam in April 2011. The competition opens to start-up ventures as well as "step-up" expansions of existing projects. To win, projects have to clearly address some of the biggest environmental challenges facing local urban communities. These include waste reduction and efficiency, environmental transport and travel, energy reduction, water efficiency and sustainable design.
In Vietnam, we received 85 applications, 18 were shortlisted and interviewed. All of these 18 have been included in the programme enable them to benefit from relevant British Council and LRQA networks and activities. Finally, six best ideas were selected for E-idea grants of VND 100,000,000 (nearly US$5,000) each as seed funding for their project.
