"Nightride and Sunrise" is a 1908 symphonic poem by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). It was inspired by either Sibelius' first visit to the Colosseum in Rome or a sleigh ride in the Finnish countryside - Sibelius gave both explanations at different times. The work is meant to depict a spiritual experience of an "ordinary man," who witnesses a magnificent sunrise following a long ride during the night.
