Tired of politicians rigging the system on behalf of big corporations and the wealthy, and outraged by Governor Bruce Rauner’s proposed budget cuts, families throughout Illinois are rising up on Wednesday, March 11, to reclaim Illinois’ state government and demand elected officials put working families first.

Governor Bruce Rauner’s proposed budget cuts include slashing vital programs like Medicaid, mental health services, child-care services, community care programs for seniors, and funding for higher education. Gutting public services would exacerbate inequality in Illinois, hurt low-income families, and weaken our democracy. The cuts would also lead to higher costs for the state in the coming years and further the state’s debt burden.

On March 11, they’re joining with families around the country for “We Rise,” a national day of action in affiliation with National People’s Action, Center for Popular Democracy, and USAction. In 18 states across the country, families are taking to the streets, parks and state capitols to send a clear message: our statehouses and our cities belong to us.
