Mark Schmitz describes leaf fossils found in a lapilli tuff hypothesized to be the Picture Gorge Ignimbrite in Wheeler County, Oregon near John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The distinctive texture of the volcanic rock and the included fossils can be used to help correlate it with other volcanic rocks in the region.
