The Buriti River is born in the Pareci Indigenous Land and crosses the Tirecatinga Indigenous Land, being sacred to these peoples. It belongs to the Juruena Hydrographic Basin, rich in animal and plant diversity.
The Juruena Hydrographic Basin is being threatened by the construction of more than a hundred hydroelectric projects and contaminated by the use of agrochemicals in agrobusiness.
