In the early morning hours of October 3, a U.S. gunship repeatedly bombed a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital in Kunduz, in northern Afghanistan. The attacks killed 22 people, including 12 MSF staff and 10 patients, and injured more than three dozen patients and MSF staff. The hospital itself was destroyed, leaving several hundred thousand people without access to emergency trauma care.

One month after the attack, MSF offices around the world gathered to remember and honour the lives of the staff and patients killed the attack and to re-iterate the call for an independent investigation into these attacks, to be carried out by the International Humanitarian Fact-Finding Commission.
