This 1955 film is promoting the new Ford estate cars, the Escort and it's more luxurious cousin, the Squire. The Escort was based on the Anglia 100E, with the Squire based on the Prefect 100E. Motor magazine's 1955 test drive results for the Squire put the top speed at 69.9 mph with 0-50 in 20.2 seconds. The appeal was more in the 49 cubic feet load space, than the performance. As our pipe-smoking presenter says, the estates are "for the man with a load on his mind".
