Another video slideshow for the new Wild West series. Belle Starr, known as "Queen of the Bandits," was born as Myra Maybelle Shirley near Carthage, Missouri, in 1848. In 1864, the Shirley family moved to Texas, where May married Jim Reed, her first husband, but two years later she gave birth to a daughter by the outlaw Cole Younger. Younger took off as soon as young Pearl was born. Belle and Reed were forced to move to California after Reed was sought on a murder charge in Arkansas. They eventually came back to Texas, where Reed was killed in 1874. Belle is said to have married Bruce Younger four years later, but there is no documentation to back that up. She did marry a Cherokee Indian named Sam Starr in 1880 and settled down to a little horse thievery. She had a series of outlaw lovers (Jack Spaniard, Jim French, and Blue Duck, to name a few), and was murdered in 1889, shot off her horse just two days before her 41st birthday. The music is "Banjo Boogaloo." I seem to have been unlucky with music choices for this series. Once again, we lose the original music which was "Belle Starr," performed by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris.
