Jon Astley was Pete Townsend's brother-in-law at the time of recording this single, which was a hit in the States but not in the UK. The album from which it was taken, 'Everybody Loves The Pilot (Except the Crew)' features Eric Clapton and Sam Brown, and Astley went on to release another album called 'The Compleat Angler' before giving up on his solo career. Only heard 'Jane's Getting Serious' for the first time recently and the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned as to whether it's any good or not -- I much prefer the tracks from the second album. Certainly sounds like Bowie though!
