According to researchers, public schools are more segregated now in the United States than they were five decades ago. And UCLA’s Civil Rights Project finds New York State schools rank at the top of the list when it comes to the highest concentration of the most intensely-segregated public schools.

This week on Need to Know we look into the status of a local program that developed in the 1960s with a mission to end racial isolation and segregation in education in the Rochester area.

Also on the show, local teens are working to transform the JOSANA neighborhood. In the process, they’re learning workforce development skills and teaching area neighbors about the benefits of community gardens.
