In this video, Jason "Shark" (Mc)Guckian will show you how to do an upright row. This can be done with both a barbell and two dumbbells. When adding weights to a barbell, make sure that they're even on both sides. When using dumbbells, also make sure that they are both the same weight. No matter which way you decide to do it, make sure that the weight you use if comfortable for you. Because this exercise has been known to cause shoulder pain, don't overexert yourself of it may cause damage. When doing the exercise, don't lift the weights any further up than your arms can physically go.
The upright row focuses on your shoulders, toning them and giving more muscle mass. Working your shoulders can help to prevent injury as well as help to strengthen your arms and chest. They are mainly used for the movement of your arms, aiding in pushing or pulling objects and lifting heavy objects.
While the upright row gets a lot of flack, when executed properly it can be on of the best overall shoulder exercises there are. It attacks the traps for a thicker stronger neck Then moves to the medial or side head of the shoulder widening your shoulders like boulders. Finally, the last muscle directly involved is the rear delts. The rear delts are responsible for a healthy back, expanding the chest and the overall development of healthy shoulders.
When doing any exercise, make sure that you stay hydrated.
