Candy says I've come to hate my body and all that it requires in this world Candy says I'd like to know completely what others so discreetly talk about I'm gonna watch the bluebirds fly over my shoulder I'm gonna watch them pass me by Maybe when I'm older What do you think I'd see If I could walk away from me Candy says I hate the quiet places that cause the smallest taste of what will be Candy says I hate the big decisions that cause endless revisions in my mind I'm gonna watch the bluebirds fly over my shoulder I'm gonna watch them pass me by Maybe when I'm older What do you think I'd see If I could walk away from me De nada!
Andreas Baader
BETWEEN THE STONES * From this truth None can hide Not what's below What's inside In enlightened darkend rooms Dwells my consternation Alone in hope's sweet womb I await love's gratification I feel your eyes upon me Questioning my skin This superficial identity Is no reflection from within For I harbour a shattered mirror I see no similitude This disconnect I feel in my bones I coum between the stones * Not what's below What's inside Alone in darkend room I sense your desperation Waiting in hope's sweet womb For love's sweet gratification Did you choose your own name? Or have you taken one of theirs? Unfitting assemblage of letters Speak very little about me ID ID ID-less Coum between the stones * Not what's below What's inside

I had no Idea this was Doug Yule singing rather than Lou.

My life is a lie...

Lou does sing a bit like this on a couple of occasions though, like Sunday Morning.

I first realized I had gender dysphoria listening to this song. It took me another decade to find the courage to come out but it was well worth it. Thanks to Lou and Candy for setting me free from me.

I see the trolls forced Madi to remove her comment/s. Hope she's all right.

Why is this song not more famous??

Christopher Shreeve because popularity in music is based on a number of different factors like the reputation of the artist, promotion, style, time, connections, etc, not just quality
merry neves
Because it is a bit boring, not "take a walk on the wild side" or the kinks "lola."

Candy Darling, who inspired this song, was so beautiful. I tear up every time I hear it.

Best thing about Lou Reed is that he knew someone else could sing this better than him,and insisted that he did.The world has surely lost a great artist.

+panzercat39 late reply I know but actually their manager got fed up with lou reed and lour left. lou was never an especially nice person unfortunately and blamed a lot of the vu's problems on Doug, who was really just some kid he replaced John Cale with. it was really their manager's fault. squeeze was really only made because doug was obliged to make another album from their record label
jimmy page
+panzercat39 He did a really good job on "New Age' off the Loaded album

Love that dreamy vibe

Candy says, "I hate the big decisions That cause endless revisions in my mind" Living in the mind sure is a drag. Learn how to live fully aware of the present moment without living in the mind at all. Read 'The Present' by googling 'The truth Contest'

It's about several of the Factory regulars (Holly, Jackie Curtis, "Little" Joe Dallesandro, etc.) there's a Candy verse, but in the US it was cut from the single version because of the line "But she never lost her head, even when she was givin' head".

Explain something to me. Why do so many of you in your comments simply repeat the title? Is that the best you can do?

Been listening to this song for 4 years almost. Found the Velvets when i was 19. Many things changed for me then but that music was everlasting. There is a strange, surreal quality in what they did
