CD with an original recording by Art Garfunkel included.
Once in a while, a perfect union of words and music creates a transcendent song that soars from the heart and speaks to every soul ... Grateful is such an anthem -- a loving reminder of the gifts available to us when we approach life with gratitude. It is a song that inspires courage, compassion, and hope. In this exquisite picture book and accompanying CD recorded by Art Garfunkel, Anna-Lisa Hakkarainen's radiant paintings bring John Bucchino's words to life. A joyous celebration of the beauty of the seasons, the wonders of nature, and the blessings of faith, here is a gift to be treasured by children and adults of all ages.
Note from Julie:
"Several years ago at Thanksgiving dinner, my family and I were discussing what we were thankful for.Our dear friend, Anne Runolfsson said she could best describe her feelings in a song. When her glorious voice poured forth a cappella with John Bucchino's 'Grateful', there was not a dry eye in the house. Emma and I took note of the song's universal appeal and hastened to obtain a copy on CD. But it wasn't until Emma's son Sam asked to hear it over and over again that we had the idea to adapt it into picture book form. "Grateful" is one of those truly synergistic efforts, touched by grace at each step of its journey. Anne introduced us to John and our art director led us to Anna-Liisa. When the time came to record the CD to accompany the book, we could imagine no one better than the honey-toned Art Garfunkel. Lo and behold, Art was a friend of John's and was among the first people to hear the song moments after it was written. Somehow, "Grateful" continues to weave its magic. We hear from readers and listeners all around the world giving thanks for the gift of this book. Thanksgiving has taken on new meaning for us all ever since!"
"A celebration of the beauty of the seasons, the wonder of nature, and the meaning of faith. Hakkarainen's soft-focused, luminous illustrations grace each page... go ahead, learn the song, and by all means, sing it from the heart." School Library Journal
